How to Update Your Donation Registration

Everyone has the opportunity to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor — a decision that can save lives. If you ever change your mind, you can update your registration at any time.

Recently, a few media reports have raised concerns about organ donation practices in states outside our service area. We understand these stories may cause worry, and we have seen some people remove their donor registration. These situations do not reflect the strict protocols followed by LifeShare or the exceptional care provided by our partner hospitals.

Every registration matters — removing your decision can impact those waiting for life-saving transplants.

How to register as a donor:

Registering as a donor is an important decision, and a legally binding one – your choice will be honored after your passing. It’s important you talk with your family so that they are aware of your wishes.

You can register in several ways:

  1. Driver’s License, Real ID or State ID
    • Say “yes!” when applying or renewing your license or ID.
  2. Online Registration
  3. iPhone Health App
    • Open the health app // tap your profile // scroll to Organ Donation // tap Sign Up with Donate Life.
    • To edit or remove your registration later, tap your profile // organ donation // edit donor registration.
  4. Hunting & Fishing License
    • You can register when applying online for your Oklahoma Hunting or Fishing License.

Tip: After registering, sharing your decision with your family – they will be the ones honoring your wishes.

Need to update your donor status?

Your most recent documented decision regarding donation is the one which will be honored. You can update or change your documented decision at any time depending on how you registered to be a donor:

  1. Oklahoma Driver’s License or Real ID
    • Visit your local Tag Agency or Service Oklahoma location to remove the status from your driver’s license. You will need to choose ‘skip’ where you indicate your donation decision. Please note there is a charge for a new license.
    • You may also visit LifeShareRegistry.org, create an account by registering to be a donor, and if wanting to remove yourself from the registry, log back in and select ‘non-donor’
  2. LifeShareRegistry.org Online Registration
    • If you registered at LifeShareRegistry.org, visit this website, and submit your Registration ID. Then, you can change your designation status (Confirmed/Non-Donor), or change exclusions.
  3. RegisterMe.org National Registry
    • You can check your registration status at any time. Go to RegisterMe.org. Above the form, you will see “Already registered? Access registration.” Click on “Access Registration” and provide the information requested.
  4. Advance Directive or Legal Documents
    • Some people include their donation decision in a written advance directive or anatomical gift document. You can create, amend or revoke that document as your wishes change.

Regardless of your registered decision about donation, it is important to have a conversation with your loved ones about organ, eye and tissue donation — and your end-of-life wishes.

Please note, if you are wishing to remove yourself from any registry, you will need to revisit all of the places you activated your donor status. Do you have questions about the process? Contact us here or call us at 405-840-5551.
