For Luxe and her family, organ donation is more than a second chance at life. It is a reminder of the extraordinary generosity of others, the strength of a family determined to keep moving forward and the hope that can grow even in the midst of life’s most difficult moments.
Today, Luxe is a thriving, energetic child who continues to defy the odds. Her journey to get here began when she was just 5 weeks old.
A Diagnosis That Changed Everything
Luxe appeared to be a healthy newborn, passing all her newborn screenings and going home with only mild jaundice. As her bilirubin levels improved, her pediatrician had no immediate concerns. But at 5 weeks old, her parents knew something was not right.
After taking Luxe to a children’s hospital in Oklahoma, her family learned she had biliary atresia, a rare condition in which blocked or absent bile ducts prevent bile from draining properly from the liver. Luxe underwent a Kasai procedure to address the blockage and recovered remarkably well, quickly earning the nickname “the rockstar.”
Just seven days into her hospital stay, her family received another unexpected diagnosis: alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare genetic condition that can cause abnormal protein to accumulate in liver cells and lead to liver damage. The combination of both conditions is extraordinarily rare, with only a handful of documented cases worldwide.
Although Luxe initially recovered well from surgery, her liver disease gradually progressed. Her family knew a transplant would be necessary, and Luxe was eventually listed for a liver transplant.
The Gift That Gave Luxe a Future

When Luxe was just 11 months old, she received a lifesaving liver transplant. Her family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, spending three months away from home as they navigated the uncertainty of transplant and supported Luxe through her recovery.
Just eight days after her transplant, Luxe was able to head home and begin a new chapter of her life.
“Luxe received a lifesaving liver transplant before her first birthday. She would not be here today without the selfless gift her donor and their family gave to her and us,” said Lauran Pound, Luxe’s mom.
Behind every transplant is a donor whose generosity makes another person’s future possible. For Luxe’s family, that gift came from someone whose family made the decision to donate during one of the most heartbreaking moments of their lives.
Their decision gave Luxe the opportunity to grow, experience new milestones and live a life that might not have been possible otherwise. Her family carries that gratitude with them every day, knowing their joy is forever connected to another family’s generosity.
Finding Hope and Healing Through the LifeShare Foundation
Luxe’s transplant gave her family hope for the future, but the impact of organ donation reaches beyond the operating room. It touches families, changes perspectives and creates connections that endure long after transplant recovery.
That is why the LifeShare Foundation is so meaningful to Luxe’s family. Through its commitment to raising awareness, supporting those touched by donation and advancing research, the Foundation helps ensure that donor families, recipients and their loved ones have opportunities to find support and healing throughout their journeys.
For families like Luxe’s, that support helps honor both sides of the gift: the recipient who gets another chance at life and the donor whose legacy continues through the lives they touch.
Luxe’s family attends the Little Red Heart 5K every year in honor of her journey and in memory of the donor whose gift made it possible. They also walk in remembrance of the donor’s family, whose selfless decision created a future filled with possibilities for another family.
Their story is a testament to the lasting impact of donation and the importance of supporting everyone whose lives are changed by it.
Living Life to the Fullest in Honor of Her Organ Donor

Today, Luxe is busy, thriving and embracing life. Each milestone is a reminder of how far she has come and the extraordinary gift that made her future possible.
Her journey has taught her family not to take a single day for granted. They celebrate her strength while carrying deep gratitude for the donor and family who gave them more time together.
“Luxe lives life to the fullest in their honor, and we will never take a day for granted,” her family shared.
Through organ donation, one family’s generosity gave another family the chance to watch their little girl grow. Through the LifeShare Foundation, that gift can continue to inspire hope, connect families and encourage others to support the people whose lives have been forever changed by donation.
Luxe’s story reminds us that even in the face of unimaginable loss, hope can take root, healing can begin and a legacy of love can live on.
